Background

Community Green Mindsets(CGM) was born from the lived experience of seeing environmental degradation and climate change in short twenty years. Sauset is a small village in Muhoroni sub-county of Kisumu county. Back in the 1980s to late 1990s, there was good forest cover, beautiful ambience and climate. Over the years, the areas that were once green have gradually become bare, and the rainfall pattern has become erratic. This change prompted the founders of Community Green Mindset(CGM) to see the change that they saw in their very lifetime, and they felt that it was time to take action. If action had been taken earlier, there would be a greater difference. Many parts of the Republic of Kenya share the same story with Sauset. This inspired the desire to take practical, sustainable strategies like seeking environmental investment in the county and the national budgeting process. Investing in health and population programs to help manage poverty. 

Community Green Mindset(CGM) is a Community-Based Organisation (CBO) that believes that change begins in the mind, followed by Action. Community Green Mindset looks at the concerns of the community and looks for environmentally sustainable ways to solve them, as the community actively engages in environmental restoration and preservation. CGM takes the Environmental protection, conservation and restoration, and Population Health and Environment approaches to create resilience, sustainability and environmental restoration.

Engaged Populations & Groups

Our programs target different population groups based on their needs

• Young women between 10-24 with reproductive health and conservation education.

• Farmers 18-45 with information on conservation and health.

• Small & Medium size Enterprises with information on climate change and conservation, gender equality and social inclusion and Health. 

Organisation objectives

1. Protect the environment and conserve it ensuring resilience of indigenous communities through government community and CBO partnerships. 

2. Promote safer and healthier communities by employing environmental and population health strategies.

3. Create economically stronger communities that prioritise protection of environment and health.
